What Carpooling & Community Transport options can we create for Beachmere?

I've been researching the prospect of supplementing Beachmere's public transport  options by  establishing a community bus. But I   realised  I was ahead of myself.

I think a community bus is a very feasible project -- but for now, as an initial attempt to develop a collective transport solution, that fulfils a local need, I think facilitated  carpooling  is worth exploring.

Carpooling  is the sharing of car journeys so that more than one person travels in a car.Drivers and passengers offer and search for journeys - routes and times - via a means we will explore. After finding a match they contact each other to arrange  details. Costs, meeting points and other details like space for luggage are agreed on.

Carpooling is a simple  business of sharing a ride to save time & money.

Since  our community is a small geographically concentrated one, establishing a carpool network should be a straightforward business if we use an online platform to link up drivers and ride sharers.

The key routes may even be self evident:
  • Beachmere>Caboolture Station
  • Beachmere>Brisbane CBD
  • Beachmere>Morayfield

...but there are sure to be many permutations.Regular commutes. One offs. One ways. Returns. Drop offs en route..Folk just have to offer and seek a ride.

Of course we won't know the potential mix until the exchanges start happening  so if any folk are interested either flag your interest as driver or passenger by either emailing me at ratbagradio@gmail.com or by messaging me through the Beachmere Blog facebook page.

If the momentum is there I'll establish a carpoolers group on facebook. This is method used by a few campus communities.

And remember: carpooling is sure to slash the cost of running your car.
